Fundamental Factors behind Major Currencies
Every currency traded in Forex is influenced by the conditions in its country of origin, and the external relations that affect its value. Economic Indicators (GDP growth, import/export trade accounts), social factors (unemployment rate, real estate market conditions) and the country’s central bank policy are the factors that determine the currency value in the Forex market. Each one of the six major currencies has its particularities, and we are going to analyze the fundamentals that drive the currencies individually.
The U.S. dollar (USD) is the most traded currency in the Forex market. It is also used as a measure to evaluate other currencies and commodities. The reserves in USD are by far the largest being held by different nations, and they compose 64% of the world reserves. Globally speaking, the fundamentals that drive the U. S. Dollar are several. Since the largest amount of metallic commodities and the oil are mostly traded with prices in USD, significant demand variations in these markets will reflect directly on the currency value, as it happened in 2008 with the EUR/USD reaching 1.60, being the oil price a big contributor for this event. In the domestic market, the biggest factor that has been moving the dollar are the industry indicators and the real estate boom, and both were caused by an unsustainable credit system which could not be paid, causing a domino effect in the United States economy, and consequently, worldwide. During the last few years, the USD has been losing ground for other currencies, thanks to the credit bubble, and erroneous social policies, but it will still remain as one of the most powerful currencies for an undetermined period of time.
The euro (EUR) is by far the newest currency traded among the major pairs traded on Forex markets. It is used by 16 European Union member countries and it tends to enlarge during the next few years. The fundamental factors that move the Euro are often based on the strongest economies using the new common currency, such as: France, Italy and mainly Germany. The countries’ indicators regarding export trade, inflation and unemployment rate tend to have a high impact on the EUR movements, considering that countries such as Germany are larger exporters of manufactures and technology. Europe still remains an energy dependant from the Russian gas and the Middle Eastern Oil, making higher demands for these commodities to have a negative reflect on the European Union common currency.
The pound sterling (GBP) is the national currency of the United Kingdom, and the fundamental factors that move it are as complex and variable as the British economy and its global influence. The London commodity market plays a fundamental role in the GBP trends, being a reference for oil and gold trading. Nevertheless, as a powerful and globally dynamic economy, the United Kingdom indicators, social situation and the housing sector are perhaps the main determinant factors for the GBP price. Lately, the British economy has faced inflation issues, which led the interest rates to be cut, industrial recession, and other domestic factors that made the trading movements to naturally flow from the GBP towards other strong economically backed currencies, such as the EUR.
The Japanese yen (JPY) is the strongest and by far the most traded currency in the Asian market. Japan’s economy is mainly orientated to the industrial production exportation, and the economic situation of its main commercial partner, the USA, tends to have a direct influence on the JPY market. The JPY is a low-yield currency, being the GBP/JPY the most volatile pair traded on Forex, usually the scalper’s favorite one.
Switzerland is a small country located in the European Alps, yet, its strong international trade and money influx, made the Swiss franc (CHF), one of the main currencies traded on Forex. The CHF is often preferred by low yield investors. In times of financial instability, such as for the last years with the USD, many traders choose the CHF as a safe investment. The CHF trends can be often compared to those of the gold, increasing their value while other markets’ tends to depreciate during economic downturns.
The Canadian Dollar (CAD) faces a similar situation with the other commodity currencies, being majorly an export-dependable. Most of the Canadian production is exported to the USA. Facing the very same credit bubble problem that dragged America into recession, Canada has to deal also with a decreasing demand for all commodities. The CAD usually correlates positively with the prices for the all commodities.

Top 10 Myths about Forex
Forex is a market where exchange of one currency with another currency takes place. It’s the market which provides accessibility and liquidity to the traders to buy and sell one foreign currency in exchange of another.
Forex traders seek profit in buying currencies low and selling them high. This kind of trading became more popular with the widespread of the on-line Forex brokers. There is a lot of information available about Forex on the web. However there also many myths surrounding the foreign exchange market:
1. Forex trading is easy. Many people that want to dive into the world of the foreign exchange market believe that the Forex trading is easy — you just read a book or two and then you will be able to earn daily profits with just 2-3 hours trading daily. Others think that they can buy a profitable strategy and it will make them rich in Forex. In reality that’s just a myth. Succeeding in Forex isn’t easier than mastering any other profession — it takes time, money and a lot of practice.
2. "I will make money in Forex, if I can trade stocks successfully." Success in stock market doesn’t imply that you will get success in Forex market — there are many differences between trading stocks and the spot currencies. First of all, Forex market requires a lot of hard work and dedication as this market is open for 24 hours a day. You cannot just sit in front of your computer for the whole day and night, so the best way is that you should find the most suitable time periods for trading. Second, “buy&hold„ strategy simply won’t work in Forex market. Third, you don’t have that much information about currencies as you can get from the companies’ reports and statistics.
3. "I can make profit whenever I want if Forex market is open 24 hours a day." Once again, you won’t be sitting in front of your PC for the whole day to be able to trade 24 hours. You’ll have to develop automated trading software to get the advantage of 24 hours a day working schedule.
4. "I can be a successful Forex trader just following someone else’s signals." Many beginning traders get burned by the blind signal-following. That’s like putting away the whole responsibility for your actions to someone else. That may sound cool, but in reality you end up with the huge losses. Learn to rely on your own knowledge and skills. Remember that there were no great signal-followers in any financial market.
5. No commission is to be paid in Forex market. You only have to pay the spread, but you don’t have to pay the commission. And what’s spread? It is the difference between the buy and sell price of the currency pair at the same moment. You may end up with the major part of your profits in the broker’s hands if you plan to rely on the short-term trading.
6. Forex is a scam. Some skeptics and disappointed traders think that Forex is just some new fad to scam people for their hard earned money. Although there are many scams that are hiding behind the "brand" of Forex, that doesn’t mean that the Forex itself is a scam. There are many institutional Forex brokers, regulated Forex account managers and other solid companies in the market to whom you can trust.
7. "I need to exactly predict the market outcome to be profitable in Forex." There is no scientific method to know something in advance in the market with a 100% certainty. There would be no Forex market if you could know the exact currency rates beforehand. Trading is not the game of certainties; it’s a game of odds. One of the first things that new traders learn is to think in the terms of probabilities and risk-to-reward ratios.
8. "I need to use a very complex strategy to be successful in Forex." It’s a popular myth, in which many on-line sellers would want you to believe. The main requirement to be successful in Forex is a self-discipline and money management. There are many traders that make consistent profits with rather simple and old strategies.
9. "I need to have a lot of starting capital to get profit in Forex." Big capital investment won’t help you in Forex. You don’t need a lot of money to diversify in currencies and you can’t move the currency rates with your trading orders (you’d need billions of dollars to do that). Actually you can trade with a very a little capital, because Forex trading is almost always leveraged with the broker’s money.
10. Forex is gambling because it’s completely random. Although there is no certainty in Forex (as in any financial market) it doesn’t mean that it’s completely random. And it’s certainly not a gambling, since your success in this market depends mostly on your skills and experience, not on your luck.
Knowledge is power — so it’s better for you to learn distinguishing some stereotypical myths from the real thing. Don’t fall for the promises of getting some easy profits in Forex, but don’t be afraid of the market just because some people think it’s not possible to earn there. Be rational — this quality will help you either if you are going to trade in Forex or not.

Forex News Trading
Traders on the Foreign Exchange market, Forex market for short, can potentially make thousands of dollars based on the volatility and fluctuations of a country’s currency. To better themselves and have a leading advantage over other traders, some Forex traders and investors participate in a practice known as news trading. The risks are very high, but the potential gains can be worth thousands of dollars and many traders and investors use this technique.
The technique of news trading is quite simple. It is the trading of foreign currency immediately before or after an important economic news announcement. After such announcements, there is a high possibility that market prices will fluctuate, either for the better or worse, depending on the announcement. For example, if the U. S. Federal Reserve announces another increase of the interest rate, many traders might invest in the U.S. dollar as it is expected that its value will appreciate. The main advantage of news trading is the potential for a country’s currency to make huge gains or losses in very little time. Within minutes of an economic announcement, a country’s currency can gain or lose one hundred points almost instantly. The potential of huge profits attracts Foreign Exchange traders and investors, however there are various risks associated with news trading.
Like any investment, there is always a risk, and news trading on the Forex market is no different. Though the potential profits are huge, the losses are also equally as large. The dangers of news trading come from the fact that a trade must be made quickly or else you are going to lose. If you are caught on the bad side of a trade, your money will be gone quicker than you can blink your eye. You will lose money so fast that there won’t even be time for you to manually close your trades, leaving you with nothing. Stop-loss orders are also potentially dangerous as there is a high probability of slippage because of the sudden price fluctuation.
Though some investors and traders might get lucky trading news, there is only a small probability that you will make a profit. Even if you are an expert news trader, you should still be very, very cautious when participating in this practice. Successful news trading depends solely on how you get your news. The most successful news traders are the ones with the fastest news feeds and those that are able to quickly place their trades immediately after an announcement has been made. Even using other forms of news trading, such as placing orders above or below the market price is still a guessing game, and those traders in the market who base their trades on guesses, won’t have much money after a short time.
For many Forex traders and investors, their trades are dictated by technical indicators and price indexes. Hours are spent researching every indicator, taking every risk into account and then making a decision based on everything they have studied. However, for a Forex news trader, none of this matter, and the only thing they take into account is economical news announcements.
News trading is possible because the Forex market is always open, unlike many financial markets. In a financial market, securities trades of certain stocks are suspended when an important company announcement is being made. These announcements are usually made after the market has closed for the day. However, because the Foreign Exchange market is open 24 hours, any economic announcement will have direct affects on the currency of that country, and maybe others as well. In the Forex market, there are eight major currencies that are traded, as well as over seventeen derivatives to be traded as well. This means that on any given day, there will always be economic announcements from any of the major traded currencies. The major trader currencies are as follows:
1. U.S. Dollar (USD)
2. Great British Pound (GBP)
3. Euro (EUR)
4. Japanese Yen (JPY)
5. Australian Dollar (AUD)
6. Swiss Franc (CHF)
7. Canadian Dollar (CAD)
8. New Zealand Dollar (NZD)
Because of the availability of each currency, currency pairs, and its derivatives, such as USD/JPY, EUR/USD, AUD/USD, as well as several others, each currency can be traded at any given time because these currencies are globally traded.
Any Forex news trader or news investor will have to have the latest most up to the moment news announcements. Even if the news announcements are only a couple of minutes old, this can have devastating effects for any trader who has risked any sum of money. Most news traders like to keep an eagle eye on any news regarding economical activity, but most importantly news dealing with interest rates changes, FOMC rate decisions, retail sales figures, inflation indicators such as the consumer price index (CPI), producer price index (PPI), unemployment figures, industrial production announcements, boost in business and consumer confidence, as well as business sentiment surveys. Manufacturing sector surveys, trade balance release details, and foreign purchases of U.S. Treasuries may also prove useful for a news trader to better make decisions regarding when or when not to trade.
However, it should be remembered that these news announcements can have ranging impacts on a country’s currency, and after an announcement, the volatility of a currency may greatly fluctuate. It is important to take advantage of news that creates movements in volatility that will last for a few minutes or even hours. Trading on the Forex market based solely on news is a difficult and sometimes dangerous practice. However, there are some indicators that can make a news trader’s job easier, such as breakout indicators (Bollinger bands, breakout of a candlestick bar, or a price bar). Research has proved that news announcements can impact a currency’s value quite severely, in some cases it can gain or lose anywhere from 33 pips to 124 pips, opening up the ideal trading opportunity looked for by news traders. If a news trader is able to act quickly enough, even the smallest news release can be turned into a potential profit of thousands of dollars. However, it is important to remember the volatility of such announcements, and although the profits seem endless, the losses can happen too.

Recommended Forex Brokers
The bad thing about all brokers is that they can’t make you trade better in Forex. The best thing that they can do for a trader is to offer him enough freedom, tools and support to bring his trading strategy to life. Here is the list of those brokers that try not to interfere with the ways that a trader chooses:
FXOpen — some people say that they have too many traders to be efficient but, in my opinion, the amount of traders using this broker proves its quality. After all, it has a nice set of features:
* Contests among traders
* Bonus programs
* Alternative payment methods: WebMoney, LibertyReserve, CashU, E-Bullion and other payment options
* 2 pips spread on EUR/USD
InstaForex — a some sort of competition to FXOpen, this broker offers so many bonus and contest promotions to its traders that this alone is enough to make some traders join. But there are more advantages:

* Leverage your trades up to 1:500
* Deposit and withdraw funds via WebMoney, Moneybookers and other ways
* Earn interest on deposit
* Low minimum account size
AvaFX — original Forex broker with almost 4-year history of satisfied customers. Except traditional Forex trading provides also CFD, gold and oil trading:

Dollar Down as Stocks Rebound
The dollar reverted its winning trend from yesterday as equities markets climbed worldwide, damping demand for the relative safety of the U.S. currency.
The dollar lost versus the euro today as risk aversion declined, pushing stock markets up worldwide, and bringing investors back to high-yielding investments, influencing the crude oil and metallic commodities rates today in New York. Currencies like the Australian and the New Zealand dollar also pared losses against the greenback today.
EUR/USD traded at 1.4251 as of 18:17 GMT from a previous rate of 1.4087 twelve hours earlier.

Yen Gains on New Tax Law
The Japanese currency extended its weekly gains today on speculations that Japanese investors are bringing overseas investments capital back to the country to profit from a new tax law, making the yen to climb further in an already pessimistic scenario.
Various factors provided support for the yen to gain for the third day in a row versus most of the 16 most traded currencies as today speculations indicated that last quarter’s GDP figures in the United States will indicate a deeper recession than in previous one, fact which is spurring demand for the relative safety of the Japanese currency. The pound also declined versus the yen as Japanese exporters are repatriating assets to the country to benefit from new tax regulations, even if the highest rise in home prices was posted today in the United Kingdom.
Analysts indicate that this week’s gains for the Japanese currency are very much related to new Chinese regulations approved in order to avoid further chaotic financial episodes in the country, but provoking side effects of pessimism in trading markets. Today’s quarterly U.S. GDP report is also causing market sentiment to have a bearish tone, since a longer recession in the U.S. would certainly rise risk aversion among traders, a yen positive factor.
GBP/JPY traded at 151.50 as of 10:46 GMT from a previous rate of 153.45 yesterday. EUR/JPY followed, from 134.51 to a current price of 133.52.

Pound Remains Bearish on Business Sentiment
The pound is having a disappointing performance this week being traded today in the lowest level since June on concerns that new Chinese industrial regulations will reduce demand for British assets, affecting the already weakened U.K. currency.
Today, to continue a sequence of negative reports in Great Britain, the business sentiment in the Kingdom had the sharpest decline for the second quarter in more than 2 decades, as the Bank of England is likely to extend its quantitative easing measures, forcing the pound down for the fourth day in a row versus most of the 16 main traded currencies. China’s announcement that it will restrict loans and regulate steel production also affected stock markets in the United Kingdom, influencing the already weakened pound, posting the longest losing streak in 2 months this week.
Both the international and the domestic economic scenario is decreasing attractiveness for the pound, as the Bank of England is proving itself ineffective to rescue the U.K. from the worst recession in decades and other economic regions are already providing solid evidences of recovery, like the South Pacific and in some countries of Europe like Germany. It’s hard to determine to what levels the pound will go, but the trend will certainly not be bullish.
GBP/USD traded at 1.6196 as of 13:18 GMT from a previous rate of 1.6237 yesterday. EUR/GBP climbed to 0.8799 from 0.8780.

If you want to comment on the Great Britain pound’s recent action or have any questions regarding this currency, please, feel free to reply below.

Make Forex Education Your Top Priority
I have been doing a ton of reading this summer. This is not atypical for me. Reading is a way to continue my education and renew my focus on the task at hand. I have recently been exposed to several Forex training evaluation sites, as well attended some of those FREE Forex workshops you see on TV (some of them are still calling me!). It got me thinking
… “What advice can I provide to all those who are eager to learn the currency market with all that information out there without getting burned?”
I have come up with 3 Golden Rules to follow when evaluating currency training opportunities.
1. Know Thy Self – This is probably the most important advice I can provide. There is good training and bad training. Often the worst training has the best marketing plans. First figure out how you best learn information. Are you the type of person that can read a manual on rocket science and build a spaceship or are you a person that needs to be shown things through personal instruction and repetition? Figure out how you receive and process information and align Forex training source that fits your method of learning.
2. Don’t Believe the Hype – There is no golden system and it will take considerable effort to trade currencies successfully. Accepting these realities before embarking on your Forex Journey can save you tons of money and more importantly time spent climbing up the learning curve! If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. This should be no surprise! It is buyers beware market out there. Look for a Forex education company that can provide you with some solid aftercare resources.
3. Be Realistic – It is a journey and all good journeys take time to develop and flourish. This can be a remarkable journey, but one where you are apt to lose your account a few times before you surrender to the market and learn to take what the market is offering for profits that day. Listen to recommendations, but make decisions based on your own criteria, because in the Forex market this skill will serve you well!!
When reading internet-based sales letters or infomercial or forums, just remember that everyone has an opinion, but in the end the only one that matters is your!!

Forex and the Job
So you live in the western part of North America (I trade from Phoenix, Arizona) and you have discovered the power of trading the Forex market. Your passion runs so deep that almost instantly you are convinced that you want to do this full time. You get your requisite training and are ready to trade your live account. Just one problem … the job is keeps getting in the way!
Those of us who live in the Western part of the United States and Canada have a unique challenge when it comes to currency trading. Our time zones are not conducive to trading the European session and our window is small to trade the New York session before we must pack it up and hit the road. The Asian session is perfect timing, but not very active in the currencies rookies tend to focus on first.
I absolutely love trading the European session, but I am wasted the entire day from lack of sleep. I am very selective when I trade with London, because you ALWAYS want to be focused and on top of your game when trading!
Here are some simple recommendations to help you through your transition period.
1. Do Your Homework! This is valid with any trader, but for those of us who have a small window to trade peak hours need to be prepared to take advantage of any pips the market is offering up. This is really not a disadvantage. This can build and nurture a most profitable habit.
2. Go to Bed Earlier! It is very important to get your rest and trading in the Pacific Time zone requires an early wake up call to trade the London-New York overlap session. I awake 4:00 am pacific time to make sure I am awake and prepared when New York opens.
3. Develop a Solid Exercise Plan! I find when I am in decent condition I can get an additional 2 hours more of focused time out of my day. Those two hours I dedicate to making myself a better trader.
4. Find Your Trading Style! Synergize your trading style with your trading session. If you are like me and primarily trade from the 15-minute, 1-hour and 4-hour charts the European and New York sessions are my bread and butter. I use the Asian session to do my homework. If you are a position trader a whole new set of synergies come into play.
5. Be confident in your analysis. When I first started seriously trading currencies and juggling the job I found I had done my homework, planned an entry only to miss it because it occurred while I was in the middle of my mid-morning meeting. I learned very quickly to get comfortable with entry orders.
As you can see from these simple examples that becoming successful in currency trading requires two key elements…
Persistence will allow you to climb the learning curve and learn from your mistakes!
Change of mindset to not allow life to dictate the level of your currency trading success!

Embrace Your Flaws
Hi Forex Nation!!
I have returned! Sometimes you need a vacation from your vacation, if you know what I mean! While I was enjoying beautiful Southern Califoria I had time to reflect on my trading. I had some good points and some ... well, let's just say some not so good points. Instead of getting down about what I felt were flaws in my trading game I thought I would list them out and embrace them.
I had no problem listing my top five areas of trading psychology that required attention. I did this in order to identify strategies to counter these feelings and allow me better overall trade execution. That's what it's all about after all.
Before I continue, remember that I am a flawed individual, so be kind! I also recognize that these flaws serve me well in life and in trading I simply need to understand that they are present and devise methods for incorporating them into my trading plan so they have a positive effect.
Here they are!!
1. Afraid of Failure
This is presetn in almost every traders life.
Counter - read trading plan and mission statement before every trading session.
2. Lack of Discipline
I still find myself occasionally chasing trades.
Counter - I maintain a detailed trading journal that reminds me of how effective I am when deciplined.
3. Impulsive
My arch enemy!
Counter - I find I am more impulsive when tired. If I do not have enough rest I do not trade.
4. Competetive
The old athlete in me. In the past I have joined the herd.
Counter - I trade live in a focus environment with CNBC off and ensure that I make all decisions based on my trading plan and what the market is willing to allow me to take.
5. Greed
It cannot be a true list without fear AND greed.
Counter - Ironically, I employ discipline to maintain a rigid pip goal in my compounding account. Another trait that usually raises it's ugly head when I did not get enough rest.
Kowing what these negative trading traits are and when they are triggered will allow you too to manage your mind-set and turn these into positive currency trades!

Forex trading
The investor's goal in Forex trading is to profit from foreign currency movements. Forex trading or currency trading is always done in currency pairs. For example, the exchange rate of EUR/USD on Aug 26th, 2003 was 1.0857. This number is also referred to as a "Forex rate" or just "rate" for short. If the investor had bought 1000 euros on that date, he would have paid 1085.70 U.S. dollars. One year later, the Forex rate was 1.2083, which means that the value of the euro (the numerator of the EUR/USD ratio) increased in relation to the U.S. dollar. The investor could now sell the 1000 euros in order to receive 1208.30 dollars. Therefore, the investor would have USD 122.60 more than what he had started one year earlier. However, to know if the investor made a good investment, one needs to compare this investment option to alternative investments. At the very minimum, the return on investment (ROI) should be compared to the return on a "risk-free" investment. One example of a risk-free investment is long-term U.S. government bonds since there is practically no chance for a default, i.e. the U.S. government going bankrupt or being unable or unwilling to pay its debt obligation.
When trading currencies, trade only when you expect the currency you are buying to increase in value relative to the currency you are selling. If the currency you are buying does increase in value, you must sell back the other currency in order to lock in a profit. An open trade (also called an open position) is a trade in which a trader has bought or sold a particular currency pair and has not yet sold or bought back the equivalent amount to close the position.
However, it is estimated that anywhere from 70%-90% of the FX market is speculative. In other words, the person or institution that bought or sold the currency has no plan to actually take delivery of the currency in the end; rather, they were solely speculating on the movement of that particular currency.

Saudi Forex reserves reach $250 Billions
By some measures, Saudi Arabia’s reserves are the fastest growing in the world. The country’s reserves recently crossed the $250 Billion threshold, and are now growing at a pace equivalent to nearly 40% per year. The source of the reserves should be a mystery to no one: oil. Oil prices have surged over the last five years, bestowing a windfall of profits to the entire Middle East region. Plus, as summer gets underway, oil prices are sure to climb further, which will ensure continued growth in Saudi forex reserves. Fortunately for the US, the majority of the world’s oil contracts are settled in USD, which means the boom in oil prices has actually stabilized the USD, despite its contribution to the US trade deficit. In addition, Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s most reliable investors in US capital markets, which means Dollar bulls can breathe a cautious sigh of relief that reserve “diversification” will probably be given.
foreign exchange market
The foreign exchange market (Currency, Forex, or FX) market is where currency trading takes place. It is where banks and other official institutions facilitate the buying and selling of foreign currencies. [1]FX transactions typically involve one party purchasing a quantity of one currency in exchange for paying a quantity of another. The foreign exchange market that we see today started evolving during the 1970s when worldover countries gradually switched to floating exchange rate from their erstwhile exchange rate regime, which remained fixed as per the Bretton Woods system till 1971.
Today, the FX market is one of the largest and most liquid financial markets in the world, and includes trading between large banks, central banks, currency speculators, corporations, governments, and other institutions. The average daily volume in the global foreign exchange and related markets is continuously growing. Traditional daily turnover was reported to be over US$3.2 trillion in April 2007 by the Bank for International Settlements.[2] Since then, the market has continued to grow. According to Euromoney's annual FX Poll, volumes grew a further 41% between 2007 and 2008.[3]
The purpose of FX market is to facilitate trade and investment. The need for a foreign exchange market arises because of the presence of multifarious international currencies such as US Dollar, Pound Sterling, etc., and the need for trading in such currencies.

How to win forex battle
Every trading activity is in fact participating in a battle. Winning the battle is a matter of knowledge, skill and experience. If you miss any of those you are going to join the long line of losers. Some says that 95 to 99 percent of the traders are lining up on the loser’s side. How to win the battle in the currency market? It is easy to answer that question, based on the above approach – prepare yourself for the battle. If you treat currency market activity as a hobby you’ll ultimately lose all investments there. If you treat it as a business you still may loose everything. The correct approach is: consider each pressing of the Buy/Sell button as entering a battlefield. If you enter it without having a knowledge, skill and experience on how to win, you are destined to fail. You may have some lucky trades in the beginning, though. That, by the way, is the worst case scenario for the rookie in trading. The earlier you get your “bad” lessons, the better for your overall experience. No mater how good you consider yourself prepared, after demo trading lessons, you have no idea of the forces ruling on the real market. In fact the worst enemy you are going to face in the very beginning is not hiding behind the walls of the global currency trading centers. Your most dangerous foe is hiding deep inside of you. That enemy is so powerful that you will be amazed how quickly it will wash away all your carefully considered decision. No one has been able to evade the force of that destructive power. No one can understand or realize that force unless it has been confronted face to face. Start trading with real money and you will face it too. Fear, Greed or Hope are some of the names of that power.Fear forces you to sell near the bottom and buy near the top. Greed forces you to get out of the market prematurely. Hope will keep in the trade until you loose everything. Fear may save you but hope may wreck you completely. Greed will never make you rich.It is easy to give advice to trade without emotions and use the logic, only. How you can achieve that if you never have been there. You need to go through that turmoil, pick up your loses due to your emotional decisions and than analyze.Study all your “bad” trades, because they are the most precious gifts on the way to proficiency in trading. Growing as an experienced trader is possible only after getting your losses in the beginning. Then sit down and carefully study the lessons they brought to you.One thing traders never want to do is to admit of being wrong. The market is a constantly changing and it demands flexibility in taking decision. That implies monitoring and constantly adjusting, changing your decision and action. When your logical analyzes suggest that you are wrong – get out, quickly.Once you overcome the emotions, concentrate on developing your signature way of trading. You can start with following different advisors and system and picking from them the things you like. Demo trade and test your ideas until you find the trade system which is matching completely your personality. Now, you have to go back to emotion in a controlled way. Every time your system suggests a trade look inside you and see how you feel about this trade.

Forex, short for Foreign Exchange, is the simultaneous exchange of one country's currency for that of another country. Speculators in the FX market wish to purchase or sell one currency for another with the hope of making a profit when the value of the currencies changes in favor of the investor, whether from market news or events that take place in the world. The Forex market has become the world's largest financial market, with over $1.9 trillion USD being traded on a daily basis. It is part of the bank-to-bank currency market known as the Interbank market. The 24-hour Interbank market literally follows the sun around the world, moving from major banking centers of the United States to Australia, New Zealand to the Far East, to Europe then back to the United States.

Currencies are the money of different countries and currency trading is the exchange of buying and selling of these currencies. Forex (FOReign EXchange) trading is one of the popular ways of trading in the currency markets. The actual exchange rate between the two markets is done through forex trading. The most popular forex market is the Euro to US dollar exchange rate that trades the value of one Euro in US dollars.Since forex markets are global markets, they trade round the clock. Forex markets differ from day trading markets in that forex markets are decentralized and are not provided by an exchange.
The trades are directly between two traders and there could be many different exchange rates for the same currencies depending upon the location of the traders and the brokers being used. The currencies are traded directly in a forex market and the minimum amount that can be traded is known as a lot, which is at least 25,000 dollars generally. This is a margin amount and the individual traders need not be anywhere near the lot size in trading their account since the forex broker would offer the lot size instead

The forex markets have a very high liquidity
The forex markets have a very high liquidity, which is the amount of money traded, and therefore they are able to absorb large trades worth millions of dollars without the market being affected. If a person has several million dollars to trade with and wants to convert one currency to another indefinitely, forex trading is well suited. In a forex trading, traders can place up to 100 lots at a time and can also place stops, trailing stops or limits on open positions or have them preset on market orders. Sometimes they are traded with zero commissions and fees. Forex trading is not confined to one lot increment. Clients are able to trade .5 of a lot.1.2 lot or any amount where each lot is equal to 100000 currency units. It is possible for trading managers and funds to trade multiple customer accounts from a single window and a block order can be split up among multiple customer accounts as specified by the trader. Also traders can open positions in the same currency in the opposite directions without using any additional margin or without the positions offsetting. If the margin is low, there is more flexibility without getting a marginal call. The failure in online forex trading can be attributed to various factors like:
Over trading: the trades should be considered well before trading because each faculty trade may drain equity.Bad money management: the risk can be overcome using stop loss orders since single bad trade may nullify the whole year's patient smart trade. It is advisable not to risk a high percentage on a single trade.
Lack of knowledge: having a basic knowledge and equipping oneself is imminent before plunging into forex trading online. The knowledge and education of a trader play a vital role between the success and failure in the forex market.Websites offer a wide range of demo account, which can be practiced and utilized.Online forex trading offers a great opportunity for profits but with a high degree of risk. Choosing a forex broker
At the best of times Forex currency trading can be a risky business with a huge potential for profit or loss. As a fulltime trader i have seen the best and the worst that the forex market has to offer, the dizzying highs of large wins, and the gut wrenching lows of people going bust.
You might be a forex trader yourself, or maybe you are just curious about how forex markets work, whomever you are, you need to learn how to seperate the legit forex brokers from the scam merchants. The internet has a great deal of genuine forex dealers offering quality services, it is also unfortunately infected with just as many thieves dressed up as companies who will gladly take your money and then dissapear. This fear of being taken advantage of puts a lot of people off the idea of trading forex, this shouldn't be the case.
Now there are a few key differences between stock markets and forex markets that you are going to have to learn:
1. Forex has no centralised exchange house.
2. Forex trading is 24/7.
3. Forex is a largely unregulated market.
Looking at that list, it kind of seems that the forex market is akin to a wild west town full of outlaws and gunslingers. In this market there is noone to complain to, noone who will hold your hand. So how can you find the genuine dealers amid all the garbage? Do not trust any broker whose reputation cannot be confirmed, and whose company is not tied to the forex market

The attraction of the forex market
The attraction of the forex market can be overwhelming. The scent of huge profits often overpower the common sense of the average person. They enter eagerly, just waiting to invest their life savings.Lying in wait are the scammers with huge promises, they capture the new investors money, and suddenly dissapear.
The good news is, is that many genuine forex brokers do actually exist. Easy-Forex, Oanda, and many more have proven track records that justify their positions in the market. Usually if a company is small, has no affiliation to forex or a financial institution, then stay away. Also a word on looking for reviews about brokers online. Forex is the one of the risky bussiness
In each and every business there is the risk but the about the forex is the one of the greatest risky business ever. Therefore while you are investing in this business you should know that you are going to bear the risk...
Forex home bussiness
The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of forex home business is certainly no exception.
When running a forex home business, a person quickly gains knowledge of how the business world works. Whether it be selling crafts, doing a home delivery business, or selling real-estate, after investing a lot of time and effort into a home or small business, a person quickly becomes aware of the few basic business truths that govern business.
One of those truths is that you have to have time and money to start a small business or any business for that matter. More often than not, the people that have the time dont have the money to invest in a home-based business and the people that have the money dont have the time. With Forex home business, it is quite possible to generate an income with a small time investment per day, after studying FOREX for a few months, and a very small investment as little as $50 in some cases.
The second truth, and these are probably quite obvious to most people, is that in order to make money a business has to have some sort of product to sell or perform some type of service. In the FOREX world, nothing is being sold and no service is being performed, but rather money is being exchanged. You are making a profit based on the actual exchange value of one currency against another currency. This eliminates the need for employees, such as customer service personnel and human resource people if your company were to become that big.
Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.
Also, because of the huge size of the FOREX market, trading nearly $1.5 trillion dollars a day, such things as social events, bad publicity, and changes in political climate will have no effect on your business. In fact, after studying FOREX, you will be able to see how these things will actually benefit your FOREX home business.
The third and last classical business truth is that most people are prevented from starting a home-based business because they dont feel good enough about themselves. They dont feel like theyre educated enough. I read stories all of the time about people that feel passionate about something or they just pick something that they are relatively good at or have done before and start a business. They just take a chance. If you want to do it, step out. Take that first step. Dont drop any huge sums of money, of course, but do a little research, make a small investment and start your adventure down to the road to FOREX trading.

Ice land stock exchange
Iceland Stock Exchange (Icelandic: Kauphöll Íslands) or ICEX was established in 1985 as a joint venture of several banks and brokerage firms on the initiative of the central bank. Trading began in 1986 in Icelandic government bonds, and trading in equities began in 1990. Equities trading increased rapidly thereafter. A wide variety of firms are currently listed on the exchange, including firms in retail, fishing, transportation, banks, insurance and numerous other areas. Because of the small size of the Icelandic economy and the low cost of public listing, many of the companies traded on the ICEX are relatively small and are relatively illiquid.
All domestic trading of Icelandic bonds, equities and mutual funds takes place on the ICEX. Bonds and equities are regularly traded, though the liquidity is small in comparison with other exchanges. No mutual funds are currently listed on the market. Since its founding, the ICEX has used various electronic systems. Since 2000, it has used the SAXESS system of theNOREX alliance, which allows for the cross-listing of stocks on Nordic stock exchanges. No foreign company lists directly on the ICEX, as the small size and illiquidity of the market makes such a move redundant. Conversely, few Icelandic firms have listed abroad, including DeCODE.Faroese bonds were listed on behalf of Virðisbrævamarknaður Føroya in November 2003, and since December 2007 four Faroese equities have been listed on the OMX Nordic Exchange in Iceland.
Since 1 January 1999, the ICEX has operated as a private company, owned by the listed companies (29%), member firms (29%), the Central Bank of Iceland (16%), pension funds (13%) and the Association of Small Investors (13%).
Þórður Friðjónsson is the current president of ICEX (February 2006). ICEX agreed to be taken over by larger rival OMX Nordic Exchange on 19 September 2006. [1]
On 6 October 2008, the Icelandic Financial Supervisory Authority decided to temporarily suspend trading on regulated market financial instruments issued by Glitnir, Kaupthing Bank, Landsbanki, Straumur Investment Bank, Spron and Exista.[2] When the exchange reopened on 14 October, the stock index fell by 76% [3].

Forex Trading and Your Emotions
Be emotionless: Two biggest emotions in trading: greed and fear. Do not let greed and fear regulate your trade. Trading is a machinelike operation and it's not for the emotional ones. If you sit next to a productive trader and keep an eye on him or her, you may not be able to tell whether he or she is producing or losing revenue. That's how emotionally stable a prosperous trader is.
Don't trade based on leads from other people: Trade only when you've finished your own research. Be an aware trader.
Maintain a trading diary: When you purchase a marketplace instrument, write down the causes why you buy, and your intuitive feeling* at that time. You behave the same when you sell. Dissect and put down the errors you have made, likewise the things that you have done right. By consulting to your trading journal, you learn from your previous errors. Improve on your errors, keep on acquiring and keep rising.

Forex Automated Trading
Forex Automated Trading is a way of trading that takes neither human deciding nor participation, but applies a pre-programmed strategy founded on technical or fundamental analysis to mechanically perform trades thru an machine-driven software package programme.
For Example you own a trading account at a broker that calls for a 1% margin deposit for all trades. The actual quote for EUR/USD is 1.9225/28 and you prefer to send a marketplace order to buy one regular lot of hundred thousand Euros at 1.4328, for a total value of US$143,280 (100,000 * $1.4328). The broker asks you to deposit one% of the total, or $1432.80 to start the trade. Concurrently you place a take-profit order at 1.4378, 50 pips above your rate cost. In accepting this trade you anticipate the Euro to beef up against the U.S. dollar.
As you anticipate, the Euro strengthens versus the U.S. dollar and you take your earnings at 1.4378, closing down the trade. While each pip is worth US$10, your total profit for this trade is $500, for a complete return of 38%.

Forex Money Management
Arrange 2 greenhorn traders before the screen, furnish them with your top high-probability set-up, and for adept measure, let each one take on the opposite face of the trade. Most likely, both will end up turning a loss profit. Yet, whenever you get 2 professionals and let them trade the opposite way from one another, rather often both traders will end up gaining revenue - despite the apparent contradiction of the premise. What's the deviation? What are the most significant factors separating the veteran traders from the amateurs? The response is revenue management.
Much like dieting and figuring out, revenue management is something that more traders give lip service to, but fewer apply in actual life. The rationality is simple: just like eating wholesome and remaining fit, money management can appear like a taxing, awful activity. It pressures traders to perpetually monitor their holdings and to conduct requisite losses, and few folks like to do that. All the same, loss-taking is critical to long-term trading success.

Forex UK - and the housing crisis.
Tuesday, 15 July 2008 15:08
As one learns the phrase "housing crisis" spoke, the U.S. Directly springs to mind. Not without cause, naturally, because the United States housing marketplace is the biggest in the world, and the range of any U.S. housing crisis is certain to overshadow a corresponding dilemma in any other nation, in absolute terms. Simultaneously, let us not forget that costs in the United Kingdom, for instance, started out to fall earlier than in the United States. Additionally, as a editorialist points out, the affect of the UK housing dilemma may be comparatively larger on the United Kingdom economic system. While a few of the statistics he cites are in question, housing and consumer debt could in fact be bigger in the UK than in the United States. As a consequence, the ongoing correction in housing costs would be expected to penalise the United Kingdom to a higher degree than the U.S.. The account may be the same for the Pound, vis-a-vis the U.S. Dollar bill. Currency & marketplace articles: forex uk
[Our analyst] is...a long-term bear about the Brits pound and thinks some rallyings in the money stand for an opportunity to go in short at a more favorable price. Selling the British pound versus the dollar on a 10-12 calendar month time frame might give one of the better opportunities in the money marketplace today.

Forex Profits by buying and selling at the same time?
This article is one of a series which looks at the advantages and weaknesses of trading using the hedged, grid trading system to trade volatile markets.
We will look at how money can be made by breaking a number of trading truths or principles; * cut your losses and let your profit run and * there is nothing to gained by entering into buy and sell deals at the same time.
The hedged grid trading system uses the principle that one should be able to cash in at a gain no matter which way the market moves. No stops are therefore required at all. The only way this is logically possible is that one would have a buy and sell active at the same time. Most traders will say that that is trading suicide but let's take some to look at this more closely.
Let's say that a trader enters the market with a buy and sell active when a currency is at a level of say 100. The price then moves to 200. The buy will then be positive by 100 and the sell will be negative by 100. At this point we start breaking trading rules. We cash in our positive buy and the gain of 100 goes to our account. The sell is now carrying a loss of -100.
The grid system requires one to make sure that cash in on any movement in the market. To do this one would again enter into a buy and a sell transaction. Now, for convenience, let's assume that the price moves back to level 100.
The second sell has now gone positive by 100 and the second buy is carrying a loss of -100. According to the rules one would cash the sell in and another 100 will be added to your account. That brings the total cashed in at this point to 200.
Now the first sell that remained active has moved from level 200 where it was -100 to level 100 where it is now breaking even.
The 4 transactions added together now magically show a gain:- 1st buy cashed in +100, 2nd sell cashed in +100, 1st sell now breaking even and the 2nd buy is -100. This gives an overall a gain of 100 in total. We can liquidate all the transactions and have some champagne.
There are many, many other market movements that turn this strange buy and sell at the same time activity into gains. These will be covered in future articles and are covered in a free grid trading course which is available at the expert-4x.com website for those traders whose curiosity has been aroused.
There will be more on the hedged grid trading articles to be issued regularly. Please watch Forex Article Collection for future articles.

Online Currency Trading requires Patience
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. This adage often brings back the memories of my past days when I was trading initially in the currency exchange market. Indeed, there's nothing more hurtful than losing your invested money in the FX market. But, online currency trading is like life where you're got to learn from your wrong moves and keep moving on. Learning the basic skills of online forex trading could be easy but, practically, one needs to acquire the advanced skills to play safe through thick and thin of FX trading.
I have traded in forex for many years and, if you count on me, I must tell you that the secret of successful trading lies largely on the hunch and intuition of an trader. Technically expressed, you should have the accurate forex alerts and forex signals to be able to make the right moves in the currency market. However, this is easier said than done as the skills of the Currency Trading Signal takes a long time to master. This is why while a few people are able to boost their forex pips in a short span of time, the others take a long time to achieve the same or maybe, some of them get frustrated and just give it up! The reality is that not many people are ready to be entirely devoted to the perilous process of online forex trading.
Having said this, I still wonder why some people choose to be a dare-devil and risk their money instead of simply following an established and renowned Account Forex Online Trading. I began trading in 1997 and there is one important thing I have learnt in my trading career so far, i.e., you have to got to be patient to learn the tricks of making right moves at the right times and profit from your trading.
Since I have led quite a successful career in forex trading, I have been sharing the tips and tricks of online currency trading with many traders around the world through my G7 Forex Trading System which as you know has remained pretty successful for many traders so far. 16.Money Management Principles
One of the worst blunders that forex traders can make is attempting to trade without sufficient capital.
The trader with limited capital not only will be a worried trader, always looking to minimize losses beyond the point of realistic trading, but he will also frequently be taken out of the trading game before he can realize any sense of success trading the method(s) or patterns.
Exercise Discipline
Discipline is probably one of the most overused words in forex trading education. However, despite the clich¨¦, discipline continues to be the most important behaviour one can master to become a profitable trader. Discipline is the ability to plan your work and work your plan.
It¡¯s the ability to give your trade the time to develop without hastily taking yourself out of the market simply because you are uncomfortable with risk. Discipline is also the ability to continue to trade the methods and patterns even after you¡¯ve suffered losses. Do your best to cultivate the degree of discipline required to be a world-class trader.
Employ Risk-to-Reward Ratios
The following shows you possible risk-to reward ratios, and the win ratios required to break even in a trading system.
Risk-to-Reward Ratio (in pips)and Win Ratio Required to Break Even(%)
40/20 (2 to 1) = 67%, 40/40 (1 to1) = 50%, 40/60 (1 to 1.5) = 40%,
40/80 (1 to 2) = 33.5%,
60/20 (3 to 1) = 75%,
60/60 (1 to 1) = 50%,
60 /90 (1 to 1.5) = 40%,
60/120 (1 to 2) = 33.5%
Important Note
Never risk more pips on a trade then you plan to make. It doesn¡¯t make sense to risk 100 pips in order to make only 10. Why? See below example.
Profit taking level (pips): 10
Stop used or pips at risk: 100
You win 10 times which makes 100 winning pips. You ONLY lose once and have to give back all profits!!!
This type of trading makes no sense and you will lose on the long term guaranteed!

Fundamental Analysis On Forex Trading
It has become imperative for every forex trader to learn how to predict the price trend and which method or software is the best.
When you do forex trading, it is very important to understand the difference between fundamental analysis and technical analysis. A quick explanation of the difference among the two types of analysis is: fundamental analysis focuses on money policy, government policy and economic indicators such as GDP, exports, imports etc within a business cycle framework while technical analysis focuses on price action and market behavior, especially on chart and technical indicators.
Needless to say both schools are equally disparaging about the other, and both believe their techniques are infinitely superior. But the reality is that it has become increasingly difficult to be a purist of either persuasion. Fundamentalists need to keep an eye on the various signals derived from the price action on charts, while few technicians can afford to completely ignore impending economic data, critical political decisions or the myriad of societal issues that influence prices.
Generally speaking, fundamental analysis can only judge which direction the market will move, and technical analysis can supply both direction and rough currency rate.
Keeping in mind that the financial underpinnings of any country, trading bloc or multinational industry takes into account many factors, including social, political and economic influences, staying on top of an extremely fluid fundamental picture can be challenging. Meanwhile, forecasting models are as numerous and varied as the traders and market buffs that create them. Different people can look at the exact same data and come up with two completely different conclusions about how the market will be influenced by it. At the end, some may make huge profit and some lose their money. You can not say fundamental analysis is easy.
Remember, fundamental analysis is a very effective way to forecast economic conditions, but not necessarily exact market prices. For example, when analyzing an economist's forecast of the upcoming GDP or employment report, you begin to get a fairly clear picture of the general health of the economy and the forces at work behind it. However, you'll need to come up with a precise method as to how best to translate this information into entry and exit points for a particular trading strategy.
Tip: If you are new to do forex trading and do not trade frequently, you can mainly use fundamental analysis for your trading.
Don't disturb yourself by information overload. Sometimes traders fall into this trap and are unable to pull the trigger on a trade. Normally, your first feel is the answer for you to do forex trading. At that time, you are sure which currency is strong and which country's economy is good. The more simple, the more useful.
However, trading a particular market without knowing a great deal about the exact nature of its underlying elements is unbelievable. You might get lucky and snare a few on occasion but it's not the best approach over the long haul.
For forex traders, the fundamentals are everything that makes a country tick. From interest rates and central bank policy to natural disasters, the fundamentals are a dynamic mix of distinct plans, erratic behaviors and unforeseen events. Therefore, it is very important to understand fundamental analysis and use them on forex trading.

The Power of Small Consistent Returns
For most of us, 'safe investments' are limited to the rate of return that we can earn on our savings accounts or long-term deposits. The return would depend on the interest rate applicable in each country. At the time of writing, November 2007, the interest rate earned on a savings account in Australia is around 7% a year. That is a return of 0.57% a month. Despite this fact, many have preconceptions regarding the type of returns they can make from trading the financial markets.
A novice trader puts on a winning trade and gains between ten to fifty percent of his trading account. He forms a belief that, by trading, he can quickly become a millionaire. Indeed, if we assume a 20% return per month on a $10,000 trading account, we can expect $89,161 by the end of our first twelve months of trading. What if we assume an estimate of 50% return per month? We would have $1,297,463 by the end of the year. Of course, the problem with expectations like these is that they are unrealistic. Even most of those who claim to have made these types of returns have only done so in simulated environments, in trading competitions using game accounts, for example, where real money was not at risk.

Technical Analysis
Technical analysis” is an industry term that more often than not sounds much more complicated than the actual process is. Really, it ought to be referred to as “price analysis”, as this would be a more accurate description.
Through the use of charted data traders around the world analyze their market of choice. The objective: attempt to determine future price movement. The means: understanding price movement patterns of the past.

Calculating Profit and Loss
Calculating Profit and Loss
For ease of use, most online trading platforms automatically calculate the P&L of a traders' open positions. However, it is useful to understand how this calculation is formulated:
To illustrate an FX trade, consider the following two examples.
Let's say that the current bid/ask for EUR/USD is 1.46160/190, meaning you can buy 1 euro for 1.46190 or sell 1 euro for 1.46160.
Suppose you decide that the Euro is undervalued against the US dollar. To execute this strategy, you would buy Euros (simultaneously selling dollars), and then wait for the exchange rate to rise.
So you make the trade: to buy 100,000 Euros you pay 146,190 dollars (100,000 x 1.46190). Remember, at 1% margin, your initial margin deposit would be approximately $1,461 for this trade.
As you expected, Euro strengthens to 1.46230/260. Now, to realize your profits, you sell 100,000 Euros at the current rate of 1.46230, and receive $146,230
You bought 100k Euros at 1.46190, paying $146,190. Then you sold 100k Euros at 1.46230, receiving $146,230. That's a difference of 4 pips, or in dollar terms ($146,190 - 146,230 = $40).
Total profit = US $40.
Now in the example, let's say that we once again buy EUR/USD when trading at 1.46160/190. You buy 100,000 Euros you pay 146,190 dollars (100,000 x 1.46190).
However, Euro weakens to 1.46110/140. Now, to minimize your loses to sell 100,000 Euros at 1.46110 and receive $146,110.
You bought 100k Euros at 1.46190, paying $146,190. You sold 100k Euros at 1.46110, receiving $146,110. That's a difference of 8 pips, or in dollar terms ($146,190 - $146,110 = $80).
Total loss = US $80.

Leverage & Margin
Leverage & Margin
Leverage trading, or trading on margin, means you aren't required to put up the full value of the position.
Forex trading offers more leverage than stocks or futures - up to 200 times the value of your account. Of course keep in mind that increased leverage also increases your risk.
FOREX.com: No debit balances, no margin calls
At FOREX.com, your risk is only limited to funds on deposit. Our margin policy eliminates concerns about debit balances by guaranteeing that you will never owe more than you have in your account.
More leverage means more opportunity - and more risk
It's crucial to remember: increasing leverage increases risk. To limit downside risk, monitor your account regularly and use stop-loss orders on every open position.

Forex Basics
nderstanding Forex Quotes
Reading a foreign exchange quote is simple if you remember two things:
1. The first currency listed is the base currency
2. The value of the base currency is always 1.
As the centerpiece of the forex market, the US dollar is usually considered the base currency for quotes. When the base currency is USD, think of the quote as telling you what a US dollar is worth in that other currency.
When USD is the base currency and the quote goes up, that means USD has strengthened in value and the other currency has weakened. Rising quotes mean a US dollar can now buy more of the other currency than before.
Majors not based on the US dollar
The three exceptions to this rule are the British pound (GBP), the Australian dollar (AUD) and the Euro (EUR). For these pairs, where USD is not the base currency, a rising quote means the US dollar is weakening and buys less of the other currency than before.
In other words, if a currency quote goes higher, the base currency is getting stronger. A lower quote means the base currency is weakening.
Cross currencies
Currency pairs that don't involve USD at all are called cross currencies, but the premise is the same.
Bids, asks and the spread
Just like other markets, forex quotes consist of two sides, the bid and the ask:
The BID is the price at which you can SELL base currency.
The ASK is the price at which you can BUY base currency.
What's a pip?
Forex prices are often so liquid, they're quoted in tiny increments called pips, or "percentage in point". A pip refers to the fourth decimal point out, or 1/100th of 1%.
For Japanese yen, pips refer to the second decimal point. This is the only exception among the major currencies.

Forex
"Forex" stands for foreign exchange; it's also known as FX. In a forex trade, you buy one currency while simultaneously selling another - that is, you're exchanging the sold currency for the one you're buying. The foreign exchange market is an over-the-counter market.
Currencies trade in pairs, like the Euro-US Dollar (EUR/USD) or US Dollar / Japanese Yen (USD/JPY). Unlike stocks or futures, there's no centralized exchange for forex. All transactions happen via phone or electronic network.
Who trades currencies, and why?
Daily turnover in the world's currencies comes from two sources:
* Foreign trade (5%). Companies buy and sell products in foreign countries, plus convert profits from foreign sales into domestic currency.
* Speculation for profit (95%).
Most traders focus on the biggest, most liquid currency pairs. "The Majors" include US Dollar, Japanese Yen, Euro, British Pound, Swiss Franc, Canadian Dollar and Australian Dollar. In fact, more than 85% of daily forex trading happens in the major currency pairs.
The world's most traded market, trading 24 hours a day
With average daily turnover of US$3.2 trillion, forex is the most traded market in the world.
A true 24-hour market from Sunday 5 PM ET to Friday 5 PM ET, forex trading begins in Sydney, and moves around the globe as the business day begins, first to Tokyo, London, and New York.
Unlike other financial markets, investors can respond immediately to currency fluctuations, whenever they occur - day or night.

Canadian Forex Midday: C$ Eases
he Canadian dollar was trading at a fractionally easier level in comparison with an early morning quote and a late North American quote from Thursday afternoon. Disappointing employment numbers in Canada helped to facilitate the pull-back in the value of the Canadian dollar, market watchers said. The decline in the employment figures was larger than expected.
At 12:13 EDT, the Canadian dollar was trading at 92.18 US cents or US$1=C$1.0848. This compares with an early Friday morning level of 92.23 US cents or US$1=C$1.0842 and Thursday's late North American level of 92.77 US cents or US$1=C$1.0779.
Statistics Canada in its labor force survey, said employment in Canada declined by 45,000 in July, with losses in both full- and part-time work. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.6%, as fewer people participated in the labour market.
While most of July's employment losses were in Quebec, there were also losses in Saskatchewan, as well as in Newfoundland and Labrador. Employment was little changed in all other provinces.
The downward trend among private sector employees persisted in July, with large losses for this group partially offset by continued gains in self-employment, the government agency said.
The weakness in the Canadian currency early in the session had been augmented by losses in both global crude oil and gold values, brokers said.
However, crude oil has since turned slightly higher, helping to ease the selling of the Canadian unit. Strength in the North American equity sector has also helped to temper the weakness of the Canadian unit, brokers said.
The Toronto Stock Exchange Composite Index (TSX) was trading at a stronger level at midday, up 128.90 points at 10,922.20 at 12:13 EDT.

Canadian Forex/Bond Review: C$ Weakens
The Canadian dollar finished Friday's North American trading session on a weaker footing versus the US dollar. Fresh investor demand for the US dollar worked against the Canadian unit as did disappointing employment figures, market watchers said.
The Canadian currency late in the afternoon was quoted at C$1.0830 (92.33 US cents). This compares with Thursday's late North American quote of $1.0779 (92.77 US cents).
Weakness in the resource-based Canadian currency was also attributed to the declines seen in global crude oil and gold values, brokers said.
Canadian bonds ended the session on the defensive with the sell-off in US Treasury issues behind the weakness, market watchers said.
News that the US economy shed a below-forecast total of 247,000 jobs in July keyed the bond market's slide Friday, although earlier news that Canadian job losses were above expectations at nearly 45,000 in the same month cushioned the Canadian market from selling off to the same extent as the Treasurys market.
Canada's calendar of economic data next week is limited to June merchandise trade balance statistics Wednesday and manufacturing sales for the same month Friday.
